James Pancoast

Thank you for exploring my work! What started as enthusiasm for capturing scenes from travels around the globe has matured into a passion for capturing authentic moments and emotions.

I've been shooting in a professional capacity since 2016 and have recently made the transition to full time photographer. My photography style, like life, is primarily unscripted. Unscripted does not mean unplanned. As a photographer, being involved, having a plan and shot goals are key to actually getting those great photos. You may have heard the quote that in photography, timing is everything. Knowing the schedule and anticipating where action will be is a crucial component to capturing candid moments.

When capturing weddings, the creative process starts well before the wedding day. While my shooting style is fairly consistent, I like to match my content style with that of the bride and groom. Each couple is unique and each event a once in a lifetime occasion. Getting to know the couple, the type of photography they are enthusiastic about and what photography goals they'd like to accomplish are all important elements of my creative process. Wherever possible, I use thoughtful planning to organize the day in ways that create unscripted candid moments.

For portrait sessions, I shoot candid style while mixing in occasional classic poses. I find sometimes people can be apprehensive about getting in front of the camera. My goal is to ensure my clients are relaxed and have fun, throughout the course of our sessions, regardless of the location, conditions or group size.

Passion for photography runs in the family. My brother Ben has been a professional photographer for over 15 years. Based in St. Joseph, Michigan, Ben is an award winning wedding and event photographer. We work together on occasion. Check out his work at www.benpancoast.com
